Silvia Onos is Innovation Manager at the largest Dutch legal protection insurer, DAS. DAS is committed to making and maintaining legal assistance accessible to everyone. Prevention and smart use of digital channels as well as innovations are key to making this possible. Silvia combines thinking big and making it small in order to get moving. She is energetic, knows how to involve people and to keep them motivated to reach the common goal together. For Silvia, the lessons learnt from many small experiments ultimately add up to successful solutions. Examples of current projects are in the field of online dispute resolution, risk-sharing and voice assistants, mostly in cooperation with external parties such as start-ups, SMEs and students.
Simon Warr has worked in the legal protection profession since 1989, primarily focusing on underwriting. He is one of the very few legal protection underwriters to write business in both the Lloyd’s and company markets. He has been involved in promoting and establishing new markets for legal protection insurance in jurisdictions around the world.
Simon has worked for AmTrust for the past 10 years and currently runs the underwriting teams across 3 sites in the UK.
He started his engagement with RIAD in 2010, joined the RIAD Board in 2013. He was elected President in April 2017.
Maxim Baer is the Managing Director of Legal Net, a subsidiary of ERGO (Munich Re). Legal Net settles international legal protection claims for insurance companies and is the German market leader in this field. Furthermore, he is the coordinator of a “Task Force Legal Tech Germany” within the group. Prior to these tasks, he was responsible for the corporate development of DAS Switzerland, the former Swiss branch of ERGO. He started his career as an Executive Assistant for a group board member.
Maxim holds degrees in Economics, Business Administration and International Relations. He studied at HEC Paris, University of Cologne, Université de Bordeaux, Trinity College Dublin and University of Hamburg.
Dr. Hagen Habicht has been Managing Director of Digital Impact Labs Leipzig GmbH and Head of the Insurance Innovation Lab since July 2016. After studying Intercultural Business Administration at the universities of Jena and Paris Val de Marne, he received his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich on the subject of stakeholder management.
The design of the Insurance Innovation Lab follows his findings from innovation projects in various industries. It enables the participating insurers to innovate customer-centred in agile, data-based processes. The Insurance Innovation Lab is a unique offer for collaborative research and individual innovation in the insurance industry.
Thierry Wickers has been Chairman of the CCBE’s (Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe) Future Committee since 2016 and was appointed in 2020 as member to the Perben Ministerial Commission on the Future of the Legal Profession.

Iris van Domselaar is associate professor in Legal ethics and Legal Philosophy and founding director of the Amsterdam Center on the Legal Professions at the Amsterdam Law School of the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on the question how to account for ethics in legal practice. She especially addresses this question in relation to the classic legal institutions, like the judiciary and advocacy. In her research she seeks to come to grips with ethics as lived experience on the part of legal professionals and of citizens who are directly involved in legal procedures.
Dr. Van Domselaar has published extensively in professional and international top journals and is a frequently invited speaker on the topic of lawyers’ ethics, judicial ethics, moral dilemmas in legal practice, courage for legal professionals and legal ethics for corporate lawyers. Recently, she has stirred the public debate in the Netherlands about the scope of social responsibility of corporate lawyers.

Mille Haslund Mellbye is Head of Department at Söderberg & Partners, Norway, where she is responsible for claims handling in Sweden, Denmark and Norway and the implementation of the overall growth strategy regarding independent claims handling, including implementing RPA and bot-projects in order to minimize manual handling. She is an experienced lawyer and has a wide spectrum of competences within strategic management at C-level as well as profound knowledge of and experience with all lines of insurance businesses from a legal point of view. Mille Haslund Mellbye completed an Executive Master of Management in 2018 with a focus on innovation, digitalization, and new business models and she is experienced in handling media attention.
Carla specializes in innovations around voice assistants, such as the Google Assistant and Alexa from Amazon. As a consultant she helps companies to develop strategies and concepts and to implement them. In 2018, she founded Smartvoices B.V. and Voicedomein.com and has been a managing partner of both companies ever since. Carla is also co-founder of Women in Voice NL. She has experience as a senior marketing and communications manager and was Senior Marketing Manager in the central management of the insurance company Achmea from 2015 to 2019.
Carla G.M. Verwijmeren obtained her Master in Marketing Strategy at the University of Groningen in 2018 and wrote her dissertation on ‘Conversational Commerce’.

Jean-Christophe is enthusiastic about improving processes that help his company to serve policyholders more efficiently. Since 2015, he has been Director of Innovation at the French legal protection insurer CFDP and a member of the company’s Executive Committee. One of Jean-Christophe’s most recent projects was the introduction of “Umbrella”, an IT tool based on block chain technology. He will explain to the delegates how “Umbrella” works.
Jean-Christophe began working for CFDP in 1996 as delegation manager before becoming Regional Director in 2011. Prior to that, he held various positions in the retail sector after obtaining a post-graduate diploma in Business Administration (1991) and a Master’s degree in Business Law (1990) at the University of Nancy II.
Roger Gösele has been Managing Director of JUSTIS, a subsidiary of CAP Rechtsschutz-Versicherung AG, Switzerland, since 2016. JUSTIS went online in 2017 as the first purely digital legal protection provider in the monthly terminable subscription format. In 2019, the Legal-Tech start-up was the test winner in an independent comparison of the 15 Swiss legal protection insurers and revolutionised the Swiss insurance market with the top rating.
Roger Goesele is the out-of-the-box thought leader at JUSTIS with entrepreneurial spirit and broad digital know-how, which also includes outsourcing of software development to Asia. As a marketing expert he has worked in the areas of operations management, coaching, technology management and e-commerce. He has a degree in physics (Dipl. Phys ETH, Zurich, CH) and a degree in business administration (Msc. Business Administration, Nyenrode Business Universiteit, Breukelen, NL).

Elaine Mak was appointed Professor of Legal Theory in June 2016. She obtained her PhD in Rotterdam and was a visiting fellow in – among other places – Berlin, Washington DC, Oxford and Florence. In 2016, she received a grant from the Dutch research council for research into the development of judicial cooperation in the European Union.
Elaine Mak’s research connects a legal-theoretical perspective with studies in comparative constitutional law and empirical analysis (inter alia surveys, interviews). In her research, she focuses on the functioning of the institutions of government (legislature, executive branch, and in particular the judiciary) in Western liberal democracies in an evolving legal context. In connection with this focus, she has a particular interest in the knowledge, skills and professional ethics of ‘legal professionals of the future’ and the way in which legal educational programmes can prepare students for this role.
Erik is CEO of Euromex (Bâloise Group) and Board member of Brocom, a platform that brings together the broker federations and the main Belgian insurance companies. He is also Chairman of the Financial Forum of the National Bank (Antwerp region) and of the Commission of Distribution of Assuralia.
From the beginning of his career, he worked for a series of societies (De Vaderlandsche-Patiotique, ING Insurance, Mercator – Baloise Group) where he held different positions, e.g. Director Marketing, Sales Support and Corporate Communication; Commercial Director; Director Underwriting, Product and Risk management, Mitarbeitervorteile.
From 2014 to 2018, in Baloise Insurance he was Member of the Executive Committee in charge firstly of Life Insurance, ICT & General Services and later of Non-life Corporate and Marine Insurance and Marketing, Distribution support, Broker administration, PR and Events. Erik became Board Member of Legal Protection International aisbl in March 2019.
Dennis Vink has a law degree from Leiden University and during his study he followed an exchange programme at Monash University of Melbourne in Australia. He started his professional career in 2003 with Klaverblad Insurances where he was involved in the improvement of business operations and in charge of claims handling for legal insurance. He is now managing for DAS the Southern District of the Netherlands with 10 team leaders and indirectly more than 100 lawyers. His team provides specialist legal assistance and he is responsible for realizing DAS’ policy within the legal protection sector. His tasks also include the implementation of changes and the contribution to a vision of an agile organization such as DAS Netherlands. Dennis is a legal protection expert and has a precise and strong understanding of what it takes to provide legal assistance in today’s world.
